Red Dead Redemption 2. Controls stopped working. On release day, the controls for red dead 2 on pc worked fine. There were no problems after i configured them. I set up my controls to be Hold down shift to sprint, tapping to jog and thats the same settings for the horse. But ever since Thursday the controls now have a mind of their own. When you hover your mouse over an item, say food - you can use the mouse wheel to rotate through all the different food, or QE on the keyboard. As for the OP - just move the mouse cursor over the item you want to select and then release tab, there is no rotating around the main outside wheel like on the console. #3. Quit playing shooters on PC with a controller LOL. Now that's out of the way: Use Disk Clean, and also clean system files (hit the windows key, type disk clean) Use Windows Update to be sure. Manually install the Xbox gamepad drivers. Reinstall the redists that came with Division (in the install folder)

The game worked fine and picked up the controller with no problems when I launched the game in Rockstar Game Launcher. Now controller gets picked up initially and the game shows PS buttons in the menu but all inputs are ignored and the controller doesn't work. I reinstalled the Rockstar Launcher.
EDIT FOR FIX: Alt-tabbing to other applications and then going back to the game fixes it for me. Same problem. It's weird, because RTAG95's advice worked ONCE. Restarting worked twice. But 80% of the time I open the game I have no left analog stick working. So, no solution yet.

In settings, find "Key Mapping", which when selected, opens up a whole new menu with all the choices. It should be in there. Path is Settings/Controls/Keyboard & Mouse/Key Mapping/Combat Lock-On and Interact/Aim/Interact Lock-On. You also need to (under the same menu) set Dead Eye Tag Enemies for use to tag enemies when in Dead Eye mode.

For me, disabling steam settings (or logging steam out) and using the DualsenseX software made the button prompts PS ones. This method might only work if you are playing a non steam version of the game. There's an option to check enable PlayStation controllers and disable the other emulations in the controller settings of steam.
